Vintage Is Coming

February 2022

We’re getting twitchy! As the grapes start to colour up, so begins our annual vineyard pilgrimage – a constant process of walking the rows to assess ripeness and flavour, and to determine when to pick.

We’re in our Greenock vineyard where we source Grenache for Rosé. The grapes are getting close to fully coloured but there are still a few green ones, as you can see. Once they’re all coloured, it will be another couple of weeks before they’re ready to pick. As this Grenache is destined for Rosé, it’s usually the first block we harvest. Last year that was on the 16th February, but it looks like it’ll be a couple of weeks later this year with the cooler summer we’ve had.

So far we are seeing signs of a very good vintage ahead. And we’re just itching to get those grapes ripe and into the winery. It’s a wonderful feeling of expectation at this time of year when everything is looking so good. So keep your fingers crossed for us and our 2022 wines will be all the better for it!
